Croatia is one of the most popular holiday destinations on the planet, year after year, and for very good reason too. It is a gorgeous country and has everything you could ever possibly want for the ultimate summer vacation, from hidden coves and inlets to dazzling beaches and stunning, vibrant scenery to picturesque towns right out of a postcard. Honeymooners, couples, families, and friend groups are all drawn to this country, and if you have never been there, you may have wondered what the fuss is all about, why it consistently stays in the top most visited countries in the world, and that will be answered here now.
Cruises
Croatia has a marvellous coastline with sparkling blue water stirring under the summer skies. It is no wonder then that you can find hundreds of cruises here, giving you a unique way to travel and see Croatia from a completely different angle that many never even get to see. You can find some great offers at https://www.mycroatiacruise.com/, and check out some of their cruises. Whether you just want to smoothly cleave through the water from the tourist spots, or just spend time on the sea watching the sea-life on the coasts, cruises are just a different experience altogether.
Incredible Beaches
Croatia is famous for absolutely knock-out beaches, and reasonably so. In the tourist high-time, a lot of the sand will barely be visible because of the mass of people enjoying their time. You can swim all day in the crystal-clear waters, or just laze around on the sand, it is up to you.
Some beaches are inaccessible except by boat, which means you are on a small adventure just reaching them, and if you are not a fan of huge crowds, these hidden-away coves are perfect for just finding some peace and quiet, enjoying the sand and water at your own pace.
Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones was an entire movement at its peak, and whether you watched it or not, there was simply no way that you had not heard of it from one place or another. The storytelling, the performances, the writing and dialogues, and not least, the scenery were at a level that television simply had not seen until that point. Well, for any fans of the show, Croatia holds a special place in their heart, as many of the show’s top locations were filmed here. Dubrovnik’s city walls became King’s Landing; for example, the City of Mereen is the Fortress of Kliss, and the Garden of Red Keep is Trsteno Arboretum. All that needs to be done now is to find a dragon or two…
Short on Time? No Problem
Not everyone has weeks to spare for a vacation, and luckily that is not an issue if you want to visit Croatia. Dubrovnik, Split, Hvar, and Pula are all just a few hours' drive from each other away. If you have children, this is especially advantageous, as you can see much of what this gorgeous country has to offer within a few days if you have to rush. However, a country that has this much to offer, with depth and substance, should be enjoyed without hurrying. Try to slow down a bit, take your time to soak in everything you see, do, smell, and taste, and make memories that last a lifetime.
History
Lovers of history have just as much to be excited for as anyone else, as Croatia is old, really old, and offers a host of historical attractions. Pula peels back layers of living history, with a Roman amphitheatre from the first century, rivalling the Colosseum of Rome. You can find Roman ruins rubbing shoulders with Byzantine buildings and Venetian town-houses in Pula and walking through the streets feels like being inside a living history book or a historical epic from the golden age of cinema. Split, meanwhile, features a stunning 4th-century Diocletian’s Palace, perfect for someone who wants to see some wonders of architecture while browsing quaint boutiques and enjoying cafe culture.
Cuisine
Croatia, and the Balkans in general, are famed for fabulous cuisine, and recipes handed down through centuries, and that food culture is truly alive and kicking here. Sensational food is fresh from the water on the coasts, or robust stews inland, regions teeming with truffle and fine wine. The food here is as varied, colourful, and succulent as anywhere else you can find, so treat your taste buds here.
Croatia should be at the top of your destination list, and it is great to visit all year round. The best times are probably late spring and early autumn when the climate is still mild and enjoyable!
